The beginnings of wine growing on the Romanian territory go back at least 4,000 years. The legend says that Dionysos, the god of wine, was born in Thracia, on what is nowadays the territory of our country. The abundance and fame of the Dacian wines were so well-known and tempting that, in order to stop the migrating peoples’ invasions, in the 1st century BC, the Dacian king, ordered the extinction of all vineyards.

The country has been favoured by its geographical position in South-Eastern Europe, by its proximity to the Black Sea, as well as by the specificity of the local soil and climate. Alongside France, Italy, Spain, Germany, countries in this area like Romania could also be called "a vine homeland" in Europe.

The Romanian viticulture is almost at the Northern limit of vine growing. Because of this Romanian viticulture must be done in the most favorable microclimates: on hills, on well drained slopes and with the best sun exposure, or in the valleys that are well protected against the cold winter winds and the late spring frosts.

Romanian wines include several valuable native varieties, such as: Zghihara de Husi, Cramposia de Dragasani, Galbena de Odobesti, Feteasca alba, Feteasca neagra, Babeasca, Tamâioasa româneasca. In the 19th century, there have been acclimatized some foreign varieties (mainly imported from France, but also from Germany and Italy), like Pinot gris, Pinot noir, Italian Riesling, Merlot, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel etc. well adapted to the Romanian vine-growing conditions.

Today, as Romania is a member of the European Union, this field undergoes profound changes. But we are aspiring to become a valued member of the world wine community as a producer of highly praised quality wines.

Our wine tours include: technical visits, meetings and discussions with specialized persons, lectures on the wine growing subject and on the general state of Romanian agriculture and also cultural and tourist visits.

We make custom design tours for groups of students and teachers and for companies.
